Treating Seborrheic Dermatitis With Apple Cider Vinegar

ive got SD on my scalp, so i was wondering how often should i apply the diluted acv solution on my scalp, is once a day sufficient?

A few months ago I started to get SD. Now after everything I have thought of I noticed it started exactly when I took raw MSM. I was taking it for my joints actually, however I remember my face broke out BAD with acne like I was 13 years old and then the acne went away and this came about.

I have seen a doctor and I am on fluconazole going on about 11 days now and I really have seen some MINOR improvement. I must eat low carb now for other medical reasons. Insulin resistance however I am not diabetic nor pre-diabetic… Something is up with my endocrine system.

Either way that is not the point, I tried ACV a short while ago, and while I should have read more I applied it directly to the scaly spots. LET ME TELL YOU… My face felt like it was on fire from the acid… but not too terrible to tolerate. However I noticed my skin was changing to a whitish color and after 15 minutes passed I went into the mirror and the redness started to go away and the flakes were just falling off… they usually adhere pretty well to the skin…

Next time I do this, I will definitely dilute it… that was my fault for not reading up on it more, however… If it can keep the scaling away and the redness lasts only <30 minutes, I would be willing to do this daily. I will give it a try for a few weeks and see what if it works.

I am 30 and never ever had skin issues with my face like this before until I took that MSM and all this started. I know it had to have something to do with that because how bad the acne breakouts were, it was terrible and normally I do not have acne at all on my face.

I will update in a month and hopefully things have gotten better. I do notice that lotions only make the scaling worse but hides it at the same time. After I shower it is freaky looking, depressing too. I am upset this has happened because it is not like most of the rest of our body which is covered up, people see you daily, and people judge… whether they like to admit it or not.

I wish everyone else well too and hopefully this works.

Hi J.C.

Thank you for sharing your experience and the timing couldn’t be more perfect as there was another recent comment that shared the opposite experience (MSM resolved their seborrheic dermatitis).

My personal experience with MSM was ultimately unhelpful. I attempted to take it based on some forum post I read a long time ago where someone stated it cured their SD. However, for me all it did was really stuff me up. It felt like my face got a little puffy and my nose was constantly stuffed. SD remained unchanged.

MSM is produced via chemical synthesis and is not extracted from any plants/natural materials. Personally I think it’s usage in medicine is questionable at best, however there are a ton of self-reported cases all over the internet.

Look forward to any updates and hope you manage to get things under control.
Wish you all the best.

I am glad I found this forum as I have been suffering from SD for years now and every time I go to doctor they just prescribe steroid creams but with no hope at all up to now. I am from Dubai city, so I am glad that this technology called internet connected all of us and made us share our experiences and avoid repeating the same mistakes.
My SD is in my eyebrows, and it’s really bothering me as I used to have thick eyebrows before all of this started. I recently made a purchase from Amazon for apple cider vinegar Bragg and your positive comments have encouraged me to start using it and I got the instructions on how to use it as I was confused…I would like to thank each one of you, and I will update you after a month about my achievement with this oil.

Malassezia infections for many years in Tzone of face.
Tried doctor recommended dandruff shampoos, some relief occasionally.
Tried Px steroid crème prescribed by family doctor, only to be told not to use it on my face by a dermatologist.
Male, mid 60s, multiple health issues.
Applied Braggs ACV to facial skin with soaked cotton ball, did not rinse, once in evening.
Stung for a few seconds, then nothing. Smell left within a couple minutes. Skin redness, but was red at the start.
30 minutes later applied organic coconut oil to affected facial skin.
Within two applications, much improvement.
Third day, skin almost completely healed.
Will continue evening regime and post again if this fails, if you do not see another post from me, consider this to still be working for me personally.
I wish you all to find something that works for you.

Hi Basil,

Thanks for your positive comment and glad you have found this website useful.
Hope you can find some relief and finally get your skin back to a healthy state.

One thing to be careful with, is long term steroid cream usage. As it could cause more harm in the long run.

Look forward to hearing how things go.
Best of luck!

Hi There,

Thank you for sharing your experience. Happy to hear about the results!
All the best.

I would suggest continue using the clay mask nut moisturize with Hemp oil, it has a comedogenic rating of zero, helps inflammation and redness and works much better than coconut oil on the skin. Invested directly helps relieve inflammation and pain. I’m starting the ACV treatments now and look forward to great results. If not…I’m going back to the athlete’s foot cream, it works wonders.

Hi

I have started to use ACV just one week . here un refined ACV not available only Heinz brand ACV available and I am using it in a ration of 1:1 with water . will it work ??

I’ve been diagnosed with sebhorric dermatitis for 4 months now it is really driving me to commit suicide I’ve used different medicated shampoos but nothing seemed to work. I’ve searched for solutions everywhere but I’ve found none. Sebhorric dermatitis is really irritating itchy and sometimes painful. There is no cure for it. I hate my life so much I really want to end everything and commit suicide.

I started drinking the apple cider vinegar for other reasons. Wow what a surprise when my seborrheic dermatitis went away. I actually love drinking it mixed with warm water and a little local honey.

Thanks for sharing this. I have the same problem. As of the moment im still suffering from this skin disease :frowning:

Try to see it as a test of self-acceptance and an opportunity to question the superficial culture we all find ourselves in. There are methods to treat the condition but due to the trial-and-error nature of testing each treatment (ACV, Dead Sea Salt, Yogurt Masks etc) it can be tempting to despair and think that nothing works when in actuality you’ve only had the time to try a couple of techniques! Medicated shampoos tend to create a skin dependence so a more holistic/traditional approach might be worth considering  good luck!

That is really heartbreaking to hear you say that my friend. I have been using frankincense essential oil on my scalp and it is helping. I can share more info with you about what else I have done that is helping if you would like. Diet is definitely important as well as probiotics and stress reduction. Things will get better my friend! Praying for you!!

I am suffering from SD since university time and been a few years already. I used to have thick and nice hair but now I am suffering from thinning hair and hair loss problem. Thanks to this article and everyone’s sharing. I just bought a Braggs ACV and will try use it on my scalp. I was thinking about drinking it but as my stomach is weak, simply scared it will make it worse.

Please look into PCOS…Seborrheic dermatitis seems to run rampant in us cysters but is usually not the first thing that people notice. PCOS can and will cause acne, weight gain especially around the abdomen, hair loss on scalp, excessive hair growth on face, legs, etc…, insulin resistance which can lead to diabetes, ovarian cysts, irregular periods, and infertility to name the most common. PCOS is all due to in imbalance with the endocrine system so I do hope you have your doctor do an ultrasound of your ovaries to look further into the matter

I am happy to find all you fellow sufferers, my sd started 35 years ago i am 51 it started on scalp and went into eyebrows and forehead and now it is full on in the t zone of face as well as suffering from other fungal related ailments such as Otitis externa and pityriasis versicolor on my back! i am beyond depressed at this most visual of afflictions! it saps at your confidence! and trust me i have tried all treatments as the years have rolled on! i do no longer use pharma drugs however but sometimes will use nizarol on scalp to halt it briefly, i do use acv as a rinse also sometimes, but as with all treatments i tend not to stick with it if the results are not forthcoming! currently use some dead sea salt to clean up the face which initially worked but now my sd has adapted, i really think the key to this is internal and from the gut and is definitely and immuno issue! but it has helped me to see all you people who also suffer as i do! maybe my next experiment will be UVB sunlamps! i also tried kefir but it was dairy and made it worse! the problem with SD is though we all share the symptons the remedies are person specific alas Nick

The Heinz brand has been processed through heat and will not work. Try Braggs Organic.

Did drinking the ACV help at all may I ask? I also experience hair loss, have been for the 2 years I’ve been also studying, my hair quantity has datically decreased. I believe the root source of SD is internal, but unfortunately doctors are not too informed in the matter and offer little, to no help, other than useless kerotozal shampoos, that don’t in my case work.

Hey you seem like you have a bit of experience. I was hoping you might have tried the diet approach/ candida cleanse method and if it worked for you? Im in my mid 20s and my got since 16 has been ketoconazole foam alternate with selenium sulf or coal tar. seems to be getting less effective, though I once had a nearly complete remission of year ( I’d only wash my face with the shampoos like once a week)
